Dawn and Peter Lovrovich, owners of Happy Valley
Shepherds, have been fortunate enough to have the
opportunity to travel and explore many areas of the
country and Europe before deciding that the Willamette
Valley, Oregon fits perfect with their goals both
professionally and personally.
This is now the home of their Shepherd Valley vineyard
and winery, which is also shared with their beautiful
Happy Valley German Shepherds, and 2 horses, an American
Saddlebred and a Thoroughbred. They understand the
importance of good structure, trainability and solid
temperament, be it in a German shepherd, a sport horse
or a gaited horse. You can often see the dogs out in the
vineyards with Pete and Dawn, enjoying the nearly 50
acres of scenic landscape to stay physically fit and
mentally sharp.

As serious about researching their dog’s bloodlines
as the heritage of their grape vines, Pete and Dawn
have developed a strong sense of their breeding
goals.
“We
believe that breeding quality German shepherds is a
huge responsibility. We strive for dogs that meet
our ideal of the ‘total dog’ – the dog that has the
correct physical structure called for in the breed
standard that allows him to be a sound dog with
great balance and strength, sound and strong
temperament with a desire to learn and a willingness
to work.
"This breed is a working breed, with a strong heritage of service to
mankind. We breed American line shepherds and enjoy
the sport of conformation showing. Many of our dogs
shown are owner handled by ourselves. The love of
being able to compete with your own dogs and giving
them the excitement of interacting and working with
their owners, provides a rewarding experience.

As we complete the stages of our winery
construction, we also hope to get more involved in
other venues of competition with our dogs. It is the
interaction with the smart, willing and beautiful
dogs that makes it all so worthwhile.
We believe in a small, quality filled breeding
program that enables us the time to properly
socialize and enjoy our puppies. They are truly a
labor of love. Should you be interested in sharing
your life with one of our puppies, please
e-mail us for availability. Our current litter is delightful
and should have several very nice puppies available as
family companions or performance prospects. There are also
several that might be available to show homes."
The new vines are taking hold. A new pasture is
growing and will be ready for the horses come
spring. Meanwhile it is a playground for some
spectacular puppies growing and playing while
waiting to take their turn in the show ring or in
front of the fireplace.
